The company NOB Neutron Optics Berlin GmbH was founded in 2000 as a spin off from the neutron optics group at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin, HZB, to commercially exploit the accumulated know-how in the field of supermirrors and other neutron optical elements and serve the worldwide market of the neutron scattering centers.
NOB offers neutron optical devices for the spin polarisation and analysis, which is accomplished by cavities and solid state benders. With S-benders polarisation values of 98% and above can be reached.
Other solid state elements are used for collimation and focusing of neutron beams.
In 2016 NOB started to do research in the field of x-ray optics, supported by two substantial grants, and prepares to offer x-ray variable line space gratings for focusing and energy analysis of soft x-rays.
In 2018 the company was renamed to NOB Nano Optics Berlin GmbH.
